RULES OF ENTRY

The artist must comply with all entry conditions and submission requirements set out below. Failure

to comply will result in an entry being rejected from the competition or forfeiture of any prize.

Eligibility

  • The artist must be a citizen of India and also a resident of India for the eligibility period Oct 1, 2018 to Sept 30, 2019.

  • The artist must self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer (LGBTQ).

The work

  • In any year, an artist may enter only one work.

  • Must be a piece of fine art, specifically: painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, mixed media or installation.

  • Paintings may be in any medium (e.g. oil, acrylic, watercolour, mixed media).

  • Must address the theme for 2019: ‘Awakening’.

  • Must NOT exceed the size limit of 20,000 square cm.

  • May be a multi-part work so long as the overall dimensions do not exceed the size limit.

Registration for the Competition

  • Registration closes at 9pm on Sept 30, 2019.

  • All artists intending to submit a work to the InsideOut Art Prize must complete two online forms in English - one for the artist information and second for the artwork detail when it has been completed.

  • Both registration forms must be completed before registration closes on Sept 30, 2019.

Preparing the work for delivery

  • Must be suitably framed for handling. A stretched canvas is considered a suitable frame.

  • Must be clearly marked on the back or bottom with the artist’s name, email, phone number, and the title of the work.

  • Must be accompanied by a photograph of the assembled work and clear instructions for its installation if it is a multi-part work, sculpture, or installation.

  • Must NOT be wet when submitted.

  • For portraits, a completed portrait consent form must be supplied.

Delivering the work

  • Finalists artworks will only be accepted from 10:00 am-6:00 pm, 17 – 20 October. The address for delivery will be provided by email to all registered finalists.

  • If you will have difficulty in delivering the artwork on these dates, please contact us at insideoutdelhi@gmail.com

  • Delivery must be made in person, by a nominated representative (such as a friend, relative or artist’s agent) or by a courier/freight company.

  • Neither InsideOut nor the gallery will pay for any costs incurred in the delivery of any entry, including freight.

  • Artists are responsible for obtaining their own insurance.

  • Neither InsideOut nor the gallery will be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever, and however caused, to any work while in their custody.

Exhibiting the work

  • The artist grants InsideOut and the gallery permission to display the work from Nov 23 - Dec 7 2019, in an exhibition of selected finalists for the InsideOut Art Prize 2019 at such venue (the gallery) as the Committee may in their absolute discretion determine.

  • It is the artist’s responsibility to ensure that the original work is available for this purpose, whether or not they are the owner of the work. If the artist is not the owner of the work, the artist must provide the signed permission of the owner to display the work.

  • Selected competitors agree to make themselves available for the purposes of competition and exhibition-related events, promotion, and publicity at times and dates and in places reasonably requested by InsideOut.

Original and non-infringing work

  • The competitor warrants that the work is original and does not infringe the copyright, moral rights, or other rights of any third party.

Licensing the work

  • The finalists grant to InsideOut, at no cost, a non-exclusive licence to reproduce the work in material form, to photograph, publish and/or communicate it to the public for the following prize-related purposes, and anything incidental to such purposes, by InsideOut, the gallery, and sponsors:

  • 1. marketing, publicity, educational and publication uses for InsideOut or the gallery, the prize and its exhibition in all media, including but not limited to electronic/digital, broadcasting and print media, in perpetuity; and

  • 2. in a print exhibition catalogue for the exhibition.

  • Permission to so reproduce the work must be conveyed by the artist to any purchaser of the work.

  • Where reasonable, InsideOut and the gallery will attribute the artist as the author of the work and reproduce the work in full. Details of the work may be used at InsideOut and the gallery’s discretion.

Collecting the work

  • Artists are responsible for organising the collection of their work during the times specified in Key Dates above.

  • Neither InsideOut nor the gallery will pay for any costs incurred in the collection of any entry or be liable for any damage to art work not collected on the specified date.

  • If any artist does not retrieve a work, InsideOut or the gallery will give 14 days’ notice of their intention to sell or otherwise dispose of the work, via email to the email address provided or via WhatsApp to the artist’s nominated phone. The work may then be sold and, after deducting from the proceeds the costs of and incidental to the sale, any balance will be held for the competitor. If, however, it is the opinion of InsideOut or the gallery that the work is unsaleable then the work may be destroyed or otherwise disposed of in any manner deemed fit and InsideOut shall be under no liability whatsoever to the artist in respect of the work so destroyed or disposed of.

Selection of works

  • Finalists for the InsideOut Art Prize 2019, and the prize winners, will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges with experience in the art world and LGBTQ community cultural events. The People’s Choice Award will be voted for by members of the public visiting the exhibition in November 2019.

  • The winner of the InsideOut Art Prize 2019 will receive a prize of 1 Lakh rupees. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the two runners-up and the People’s Choice Award winner. Further prizes will be announced nearer to the competition closing date.

  • The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence shall be entered into.

Sales of work

  • InsideOut will prepare an e-catalogue of finalists with a brief biography of the artist and photograph of the artwork. Separately a sales list will be made available with the prices quoted by the artists.

  • InsideOut will charge no agents fee for works sold at the exhibition.

  • Neither InsideOut nor the gallery shall be under any liability whatsoever to the artist or the purchaser in respect of any work sold at or resulting from the exhibition.

  • Purchasers must be advised that the works are to remain in the gallery until the completion of the exhibition.
